Lucky Retailer Spreading the Wealth in San Diego!

SACRAMENTO – We have a rather substantial win to tell you about in San Diego County. Mark McKenna landed himself three-quarters of a million dollars by playing the California Lottery Scratchers® game $10 Million Dazzler. Can you imagine winning $750,000? Well, McKenna certainly can! While McKenna was a man of few words, there is other news to report on this win.

McKenna purchased his $30 Scratchers at Carmel Liquor and Deli, which is located at 12750 Carmel Country Road in San Diego. This retailer had already earned the distinction of being one of the California Lottery’s Lucky Retailers, but this win adds another feather in their lucky hat. There are three ways in which a retailer can land a spot on that coveted list.

* Sold at least one winning ticket worth $100,000 or more during the previous calendar year

** Paid out an average of 400 or more winning tickets per week during the previous calendar year

*** Paid out average of $4,000 or more worth of winning tickets per week during the previous

    calendar year

Carmel Liquor and Deli was previously recognized for having paid out an average of $4,000 or more in winning tickets per week. Now that they’ve sold a winning ticket worth more than $100,0o0, they can boast of a second lucky level of winning. The Lucky Retailer distinction allows storeowners to display special promotional signs as a way to further boost their business. Check out the photos below! You can also find Carmel Liquor and Deli in the Lucky Retailers section of the California Lottery’s popular public website.

Many of the Lottery’s more than 23,000 retailers are small businesses who contribute to their local economies. Approximately .95 of every $1 spent on Lottery products goes right back into the community in the form of retailer compensation (including bonuses and commissions), prizes awarded to players, and supplemental funding for California public schools!

The California Lottery is a $6 billion enterprise based in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars from the State’s General Fund. Its mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. In FY 2016-17, the Lottery created 83 new millionaires. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
