A Modesto man says he hoped to maybe win a couple hundred bucks playing the Lottery. Imagine how he feels now after winning three-quarters of a million dollars on a Lottery Scratchers® ticket! To make this story even more exciting is the fact that Christopher Allen can tell you exactly what happened before, during and after he discovered his good fortune.
The 47-year-old told us he had just dropped off his wife at work when he decided to pop into Dennis’ Sav-On Liquor, which is located at 2409 Moffett Road in Ceres (Stanislaus County), to get a Lottery ticket. The one he chose was a $10 Mystery Crossword Scratchers, with a top prize of $750,000. Allen told us he began scratching his ticket while he was still in the store, and as he scratched, one-by-one, the winning letter combinations appeared. “I was mesmerized,” Allen said after winning the top prize. “I almost fell over myself.” He immediately had the clerk check the ticket to see if this was really happening. “You just want to pinch yourself,” Allen said of that moment. “No matter how many times people ask how you feel, you can’t really explain it!”
Next, he grabbed his phone and tried to convince his wife of their good luck. If you think he had a hard time believing he’d won, this was her reaction: “You’re kidding. No way. Not possible,” Allen remembers her saying, and she wasn’t done yet. “You’re lying to me. This can’t happen to us.” Well, it did happen, and Allen doesn’t want to blow it.
The lucky winner works in the asphalt business and told us he wasn’t playing the Lottery necessarily to strike it rich. You see, he was keeping his expectations low, never thinking he would win big! Now that it’s happened, he and his family are determined to make the best of it with thoughtful planning, likening the situation to grabbing the brass ring. “I don’t want to do anything to mess it up,” the lucky winner said. “It’s only gonna happen once in a lifetime.”
